The Township of South Stormont is committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible community where all residents can fully participate in municipal programs, services, and facilities. In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), the Township works to identify, prevent, and remove barriers to accessibility. As a designated public sector organization, the Township is required to comply with established accessibility standards, maintain accessibility policies, and implement a multi-year accessibility plan to support ongoing progress toward a barrier-free community.
In accordance with the AODA, municipalities are required to consult with the public—particularly persons with disabilities—when designing or redeveloping public spaces to help identify, remove, and prevent barriers.
The Township will be seeking feedback on the following:
Accessible Ramp and Handrail at the Train Station, Lost Villages
The Township of South Stormont is seeking your feedback on proposed accessibility improvements to the Train Station at the Lost Villages Museum. Creating spaces that are welcoming and accessible for everyone is a priority for the Township, and your input plays an important role in that process. Through this consultation, we hope to better understand the needs and experiences of our community to help ensure the final design supports safe, comfortable, and inclusive access for all visitors. The project has been divided into two phases, that are more fully described below.
Project Overview
Phase 1 – Train Station Ramp and Porch The proposed train station ramp and porch have been designed to meet or exceed the accessibility requirements of the AODA. The design incorporates both wood and fabricated metal handrails, along with yellow tactile warning mats at the top landing to improve safety and navigation. Once completed, the structure will be consistent in appearance with previous accessibility upgrades completed at the museum.

Phase 2 – Accessible Walkway Connections (Planned) The Township is planning a second phase of this project, anticipated for 2027 pending funding approval through the Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone (EASE) grant. This phase will focus on developing accessible, user-friendly concrete walkways to connect all buildings and amenities throughout the Lost Villages Museum. It will also include improved access to seating and waste receptacles by installing concrete pads and integrating these features into the overall accessible pathway network.
