The Township of South Stormont is committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible community where all residents can fully participate in municipal programs, services, and facilities. In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), the Township works to identify, prevent, and remove barriers to accessibility. As a designated public sector organization, the Township is required to comply with established accessibility standards, maintain accessibility policies, and implement a multi-year accessibility plan to support ongoing progress toward a barrier-free community.

In accordance with the AODA, municipalities are required to consult with the public—particularly persons with disabilities—when designing or redeveloping public spaces to help identify, remove, and prevent barriers.

The Township will be seeking feedback on the following:

1. Accessible Ramp and Handrail at the Train Station, Lost Villages

2. Chase Meadows Recreational Trail

3. Sidewalk Repairs (Dickinson Drive, Hickory Street, Wales Drive)

4. County Road 29 Transfer Station

2026 Sidewalk Repair Program

The 2026 Sidewalk Repair Program for the Township of South Stormont includes targeted rehabilitation and replacement of deteriorated sidewalk sections within the community of Ingleside, including approximately:

  • 30 metres on Wales Drive
  • 16 metres on Maple Street
  • 198 metres across various sections of Hickory Street
  • 75 metres on Dickinson Drive

These have been identified through ongoing asset condition assessments. The work generally consists of removal and replacement of existing concrete sidewalks with new sidewalk constructed in accordance with Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD), including a minimum width of 1.5 metres, appropriate subgrade preparation, and concrete thickness of 125 mm to 150 mm (increasing to 200 mm at ramps and areas subject to higher loading).

All works will incorporate accessibility requirements under the AODA, including the installation of curb ramps, tactile walking surface indicators, and compliant slopes not exceeding 8% for ramps and 2% cross slope for pedestrian travel surfaces, as well as ensuring smooth transitions and removal of barriers at intersections.

The project will improve pedestrian safety, network continuity, and accessibility in accordance with current provincial standards and municipal infrastructure objectives.
