The Township of South Stormont is committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible community where all residents can fully participate in municipal programs, services, and facilities. In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), the Township works to identify, prevent, and remove barriers to accessibility. As a designated public sector organization, the Township is required to comply with established accessibility standards, maintain accessibility policies, and implement a multi-year accessibility plan to support ongoing progress toward a barrier-free community.
In accordance with the AODA, municipalities are required to consult with the public—particularly persons with disabilities—when designing or redeveloping public spaces to help identify, remove, and prevent barriers.
The Township will be seeking feedback on the following:
As the Township’s Trillium Landfill nears capacity, a waste transfer facility will allow waste to be managed more efficiently by collecting it locally and transporting it in bulk to external disposal sites helping control costs, reduce environmental impacts, and ensure long-term sustainability.
The Township plans to establish a Waste Transfer Station on a portion of the closed County Road 29 landfill site. The proposed facility will receive residential domestic waste along with various recyclables. A recycling depot building is planned for the site along with roll-off bins and designated outdoor locations for bulky recyclables such as wood and yard waste, rubber tires, white goods, and furniture. The existing gravel access road and wooded area will be removed and replaced with an asphalt access road, asphalt lot with concrete pads/retaining wall.
The overall benefit of the County Road 29 Waste Transfer Station is a safer, more organized and environmentally responsible facility that improves traffic flow and makes waste and recycling easier for residents.
Key Features of the Waste Transfer Station
