The next Municipal and School Board Election is scheduled for October 26, 2026. This page will provide all the information you need to be able to vote in the upcoming election.

This page will focus on the ins and outs of the election and is not meant for the public to submit questions for candidates or discuss candidate platforms or campaigns.

In South Stormont, the 2026 Municipal Elections will include races for the offices of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, 3 Councillors and local school board trustees. The election will be conducted for a term of office commencing November 15, 2026 and ending November 14, 2030.

Members of South Stormont Council are elected through an at-large election process, meaning each council member represents all tax payers and residents of South Stormont and not a specific ward or area within the Township.

Confirming Your Information on the Voters List

We encourage you to confirm that you are on the Voters List as soon as possible. Being on the list will make your voting experience easier, and help you avoid a trip to the municipal office to be added closer to the election.

If you are a resident, owner or tenant of property in Ontario, a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old and not legally prohibited from voting, you can vote in Ontario’s municipal and school board elections.

Voters List Search and Update Portal

The Township's online voter portal is now available. Through the portal, electors can:

  • Confirm they are on the Voters List
  • Review their voter information
  • Update their information
  • Add themselves to the Voters List, if required

To make changes or add your information, you will be required to upload a photo or scan of acceptable identification.



School Board Support

As a property owner, you are required to support a school system even if you do not have children or your children are not currently attending school. The school board you support dictates for which school board trustees you are eligible to vote.  

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for maintaining information on the school support associated with your property.

  • You can find which school system you are supporting on your Property Assessment Notice or through AboutMyProperty, a free, self-service application provided by MPAC.

  • You can also contact MPAC at 1-866-296-6722.

Voting Methods for 2026

The Township of South Stormont Council approved the use of internet and in-person composite paper ballots with tabulators for voting for 2026.

Internet Voting: You can vote online from 10:00 a.m. on October 19 to 8:00 p.m. on October 26, 24 hours a day.

To vote online, you will need the PIN included in your Voter Information Letter, which will be mailed to all eligible electors on the Voters’ List before the election.

In-Person Advanced Voting:

You can vote early in person at the Township Office (2 Mille Roches Road, Long Sault) on the following dates:

    • October 19-23: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • October 24-25: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In-Person Voting on Election Day: You can vote in person on Election Day, October 26, at any of the four polling stations. All locations will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
