Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

As part of the Township of South Stormont’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion, Council identified an update to the Accessibility Program as a priority in the 2023-2027 Strategic Action Plan and approved funding through the annual budget. The project supports the Township’s obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and included the development of an updated Multi-Year Accessibility Plan.

In September 2025, the Township retained Excellence Canada to lead the update. The work included document reviews, stakeholder consultations, facility accessibility assessments, staff training, and the development of a revised plan. Input was gathered from Council, staff, the SDG Accessibility Advisory Committee, people with lived experience, and the public through in-person and virtual engagement sessions.

Accessibility assessments were completed at the Township Office, Community Hall, and Long Sault Arena. Findings from these reviews, along with stakeholder feedback, will help shape priorities and recommendations in the updated program.

The Draft Multi-Year Accessibility Plan was presented to Council on June 24, 2026, and is now being released for final public consultation through Speak Up South Stormont. Feedback from residents, individuals with lived experience, key stakeholders, and the SDG Accessibility Advisory Committee will help ensure the final plan reflects practical, inclusive, and community-informed priorities. The final plan is expected to be presented to Council for adoption later this summer.
