When and where can I vote in the 2026 Municipal Elections in South Stormont?

    The 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections will take place on October 26, 2026 across the Province of Ontario. 

    Internet Voting: You can vote online from 10:00 a.m. on October 19 to 8:00 p.m. on October 26, 24 hours a day.

    To vote online, you will need the PIN included in your Voter Information Letter, which will be mailed to all eligible electors on the Voters’ List before the election.

    In-Person Advanced Voting: 

    You can vote early in person at the Township Office (2 Mille Roches Road, Long Sault) on the following dates:

      • October 19-23: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
      • October 24-25: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

    In-Person Voting on Election Day: You can vote in person on Election Day, October 26, at any of the four polling stations. All locations will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

    How can I confirm I am registered to vote in the 2026 Municipal Elections?

    Elections Ontario’s online “Register To Vote” website will allow you to confirm you are on the voter's list or to register for the upcoming election. Access the “Register To Vote” website below.

    Please note that if you wish to register to be added to the voter's list, or amend your information on the list, you must upload a photo or scan of an acceptable piece of identification.

    Who is eligible to vote in the 2026 Municipal Elections?

    You are eligible to vote in the election for municipal council if you meet all of the following requirements:

    • you are a Canadian citizen;
    • you are aged 18 or older;
    • you qualify to vote in the Township by meeting one of the three requirements:
      • As a resident elector if you live in South Stormont. You may own, rent, live in shared accommodation where you do not pay rent, or live in South Stormont but do not have a fixed address. 
      • As a non-resident elector if you own or rent property in South Stormont, but it’s not the one where you live on a full-time bases. You can only be a resident elector in 1 municipality. However, you can be a non-resident elector in any other municipality (or municipalities) where you own or rent property.
      • As the spouse of a non-resident elector if your spouse owns or rents property in South Stormont other than the one where you live.

    Who is not eligible to vote in a municipal elections? 

    • A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution.
    • A corporation.
    • A person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity, except as a voting proxy in accordance with section 44 of the Municipal Elections Act.
    • A person who was convicted of the corrupt practice described in subsection 90(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, if voting day in the current election is less than five years after voting day in the election in respect of which he or she was convicted.

    What do I need to vote in the 2026 Municipal Elections?

    Each eligible and registered elector on the Voters' List will receive, by mail, a Voter Information Letter. If voting in-person, voters should bring their Voter Information Letter and a piece of Accepted Voter Identification: O. Reg. 304/13 VOTER IDENTIFICATION | ontario.ca.

    Your Voter Information Letter will include:

      • The website for online voting;
      • Your suggested voting place should you wish to vote by paper ballot;
      • Your personal and confidential PIN (used for online voting)
      • A list of candidates;
      • The telephone number for the voter help centre should you have any questions

    In order to vote online, you will need the website URL and your PIN found on your Voter Information Letter. As an added level of security, you will also need to input your date of birth to confirm your identity. 

    Is it possible to receive more than one PIN?

    Yes, you may receive more than one PIN if your name appears on the Voters’ List more than once.

    However, you are only permitted by law to vote ONCE in any municipality, either as a resident or a non-resident voter.

    Receiving multiple PINs is rare and may happen if you recently changed your place of residence, or if you own more than one property in the municipality and are incorrectly listed as a resident at more than one address.

    If you receive more than one Voter Information Letter for the South Stormont election, please contact the Township Office. Any additional PINs will be cancelled and made unusable for the election.
